I'm bored, so gonna try to update this post/thread with what's new in 801 for those who are asleep at this time :)

Please join in if you're hanging out and watching the live stream!

801 New features:

Interactive Showcase spash-screen (Design, VFX, Games) (Are these the three areas MODO is focusing on now? Would seem to make sense)
^ Links to new demo and tutorial scenes. You can't accidentally save over the tutorial example files.
^ Simulation example setup 10m video. Links to additional info.
^ "New" link gives you a choice of preset scene templates ready to drop in your own stuff and create great images without knowing MODO at all.
^ Accessed via Help menu 801 Showcase.

(see posts below for now)

801 Changes to Licensing and Pricing:

Licensing appears the same. Upgrade price $395! Install still installs Bonjour64 on Windows, so probably the same licensing restrictions as before (yay!).

6:26 PDT - Live stream scheduled to start in 19 minutes. Looks like it's the same technology as the NAB announcement, so let's hope it holds up.
No sign of 801 in the store or on the Community or Foundry web sites yet.

If anyone's live at the event, tweet pictures and comments to #MODO or #MODO801 and I'll try to include/link them here

I'm sure the stream is being provided by the pixelcorps.
One minute to go according to the countdown.
Brad is having too much fun with his Makerbot (via twitter)

https://vine.co/v/MnE91HW6HIK
Disturbingly many marketing people in the room :)

Apparently Makerbot is a partner / sponsor of the event.
Is Brad going to make it to the end of the presentation ?
The guy is seriously hyped.
First really interesting 801 comment..... "801 is a monster upgrade"......

watching now :)
Hybrid Global Illumination

Mix between Monte Carlo and IC
integration with Nuke and Mari.... Nice.
Glue rigid bodies, jesus, that's a feature that some of the largest sim systems don't have. And it's friggin essential for games!
Brad up and talking. For some reason his hair looks much better than usual tonight.

Developers all over the world (work from home for the win).
Showing I <heart> modo images.
Talking up the MODO Community. Showing collage of people in the community.
Talking about Nexus.
Talking really fast. I like it. Maybe a bit less meth next time though dude.
Design, Games, VFX, Education, Enthusiasts. Nice to see them including the Enthusiasts in that list.
Design - Showing shoe design and QTVR creation.
MODO bookended pipelines. <MODO><something else><MODO>
Showing Luxology gallery images.
"801 is a Monster Upgrade"
New shaders, new procedural textures, new rendering engine enh. New hybrid GI, advanced snapping!! OpenGL item-based dimensions. Annotations in 3d viewport
New preset browser, channel handles
Games - Mocap retargeting, sculpting enh. new angle based flattening for UV, uv performance, uv symmetry, edge extend, baking enhancements, cage baking.
VFX - new referencing system. pipeline friendly, rules for overrides, new curve rendering options, animate curve start and end, nuke interop, exr, new render outputs, color IO, tiled EXR enh tile to disk. Mari interop, UDIM native support comes in as single texture layer). Animation workflow, new motion cycle, wrap and lattice deformers, curve probe for rgging bezzier , transform inside preview, time tool, navigating keyframes, dynamic curves, rigid bodies, impulses, compound rigid bodies with variable glue strength, dynamic replicators, Audio pmods - signal frequency filtering.
(Just showed over 50 features and that's not even the beginning)
Did I just see hair dynamics? Whoa...
Holly wow!
tech glitch..... Brad now jumping on stage to represent on screen character.......
Any bets this will be in the store right after the presentation?
The animation features are f'ing awesome.
Brad continues...

Live demo - Animation workflow.
Tried to bring the language of traditional animation to MODO.
new spacing chart for example.
Finally feel like you have control over your animation.
Start by telling the story with keyframes, then add extremes (contact points), then add in betweens.
Demoing creation of a new Action using spacing chart, key poses,
(This looks pretty sexy)
Onion skinning with all kinds of controls.
Adding dynamics iwth a pre-shattered boulder. Creates compound rigid body, tells it to sleep to frame 55, at 55 adds an impulse, BOOM(tm).
no info on exporting...

--edit--

there is this answer though

is netwok rendering fixed and updated? Also what about FBX import? We made a large number of improvements to Network Rendering through the 701 SP cycle. We have also made a number of improvements to FBX support in 701 and 801.

Yeah, I want more info on ALL of the above and the "new" Graph Editor.

Man, I wish the stream wasn't so choppy! I'm watching at 480p and getting a lot of buffering.
Brad talks about multiple markets, introduces Harald Belker future concept designer.
Harald showing car designs. Talking about using MODO to do quick designs.
Showing Anki(sp) racing video. Being a designer able to do his own modeling is empowering.
Chat: Unbiased rendering now supports MIS among other things
Chat: Alembic has been improved, it now supports v1.5
Chat: No PTEX in 801, No EXR2. Looking into PTEX.
Chat: No auto-retopology.
Chat: same python API.
Chat: No OpenSubdiv
Chat: No custom viewport shaders.
Brad introducing James Guard - MODO and Unity, Owner/Director Epsilon Studios
Game: Farrah Rogue. FPS.
Four player multiplayer split screen.
Characters retopologized, textured, and ACSed in MODO.
Level design in MODO.
Really valuable for UV.
Easy workflow MODO to Unity.
Showing intro cinematic (done in MODO?)
lattices ... what are they? It was mentioned a lot in the presentation.
