Topic - HowTo "mix" two materials using an image map

Hi ... you may have noticed ... today is my modo day ;-)

what I want to achieve is to mix two materials together using an image map. Let's say a painted surface with some corrosion spread over it. The "mixer" is a grayscale image which would blend material 1 and material 2 based on the grayscale values. white takes all of material 1, black takes all of material 2 and the grayscales between interpolate to a value between.

Of course I could produce a final image with PS as I did it here, but it wonder if this could be done directly in modo.

Thanks for all the help so far ... it is greatly appreciated.

Regards.
Hi Caustics,

This is actually quite easy to do in modo using groups and group masks.

I thought a video explained it quicker than me trying to write down and explain all of the steps on here: http://vimeo.com/29185012

Hope this helps.

Any more questions, post away. :D

This is tough work Matt ... I take a lot longer to prepare the questions than you take to respond.

But I will see what I can do to keep you busy ;-)

Thanks a lot so far.
