Take two emitters; Color their particles; Merge into single simulation using Collector/Emitters.
I tried merging with PMods but the color in the Shader pass showed up as all black. This happens if the Color Mode is set to OFF. A workaround is to set the Color Mode to Multiply. Luminous Mode and Dissolve Mode seem to pass through values properly when set to OFF.
Replicators, Volumes, and Sprites all work fine.
Blobs lost the colors and were all black.
Volumes and Sprite automatically use the color value. Blobs and Replicators have Item Masks which must have their Diffuse Color set from a Particle Sample
